API adoption rate and testing

Hello and thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

I have questions concerning 2 things:

1.) I thought that I had read in various documentation that the Rets feed was going away and that all feed providers were going to be required to upgrade and move systems to use the API by a definite date (I thought I had read 2016). Is this true? Is there a definite end of life to the XML search feed (1.8 spec for example) in which all vendors will be required to support the RETS API? If the feed is here to stay for a while, how many vendors nation-wide would you guess favor the feed over adopting the API? Is that still a high percentage?

2.) We'd like to future proof a system that interacts with several MLS regions by developing it around the API, but unless the MLS region feed we have uses the API, we can't test with it. Is there any way for developers to get access to even dummy data that's accessible via the API so that they can begin developing products that use that mechanism?

If I need to clarify any of my points/questions, please don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks for any advice you can offer!
