What is a StandardName versus a SystemName?

I see that RETS uses "StandardName" and "SystemName". What are they, and which one do I want to use?

StandardName: The name of a data field as it is known in the Real Estate Transaction Standard list of standard names.

SystemName: The name of a data field as it is known in the metadata.
